Reclaiming Yourself After Adverse Childhood Experiences

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) have lasting impacts on those who endure them. Survivors often carry these effects into adulthood as chronic pain, mental distress, anxiety, depression, or worse. When unresolved for years or decades, ACE can even manifest as physical disease.

The Secret of Energy

In elementary school science class, I learned the Law of Conservation of Energy: "energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed." This principle felt like knowing a secret of the universe, and I carried it with me through the years. Later, in one of my early yoga classes, when I heard "everything is energy, including you," I felt electrified. Here was another piece of the puzzle.

In the laboratory of my own body, I began understanding how energy is utilized and channeled. I learned that caring for my personal allotment of universal energy is vital because while energy cannot be destroyed, our physical bodies can be transformed into dust—and disease is the quickest route to that end.

How ACE Depletes Our Energy

When ACE—abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, and trauma—rob our energy, our bodies become vulnerable. Mind and emotions destabilize. These experiences create patterns in our nervous system, keeping our postures and movements in states of tension or freeze. We forget we're holding this tension and lose the ability to release it naturally.

As therapists working with touch, movement, and the mind, we see evidence of these conditions daily. Chronic stress and trauma live in the shadows of our bodies, siphoning energy that would otherwise maintain healthy immune and nervous systems.

The Path to Reclaiming Your Energy

My approach creates a safe space where you can relax and pay attention to what your body holds. Through the integration of five essential tools—touch, talk, movement, stillness, and presence—hidden memories can emerge from the shadows and move toward healing.

During a recent trip providing somatic therapy sessions, I witnessed example after example of transformation. Women who had experienced unspeakable traumas were able to express, release, and emerge more radiant, clear, and empowered. Human-to-human, we rebuild ourselves through the power of connection and loving presence.

Your Journey to Wholeness

This work is about reclaiming the energy that's rightfully yours. Through body, mind, and spirit integration, we explore together how to:

- Release tension patterns stored in your nervous system

- Transform frozen energy back into vital life force

- Develop greater self-awareness and inner peace

- Strengthen your relationship with yourself

- Create more satisfying connections with others

In the words of Dr. Milton Trager: "world peace... one body at a time."

Your story of survival can become a story of thriving. The energy you lost to adverse experiences can be reclaimed, transformed, and channeled toward the life you deserve.

*If you're ready to explore this path to greater self-awareness and peace, or if you know someone who could benefit from this approach, I invite you to connect. Together, we can transform what was taken into what empowers you most.*
